A big part of the EYCF mission is to inspire an appreciation for the Chesapeake Bay and spark a lifetime love and respect of the water. The Junior Sailing Scholarship program is our first chance to meet children and begin that adventure.
Scholarships are offered for one week of classes in the nationally certified and highly respected Eastport Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program that runs mid June through early August. The young sailors are placed in one of four class levels depending on their experience. They train on Blue Dragon Prams, RS Zests, RS Fevas and J-22’s, as well as kayaks and paddle boards.
EYCF’s goal is to introduce the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing to local youth. Ky’Niya Henson, who has been a recipient of multiple scholarships, is living proof that it’s working. She’ll tell you she loves the feeling of freedom she gets on the water and that sailing has helped her become more confident and less shy. Ky’Niya’s years in the program have also led to a dream come true – she returned for multiple sum,mers as a Junior Sailing Counselor.
EYC Foundation provides scholarships to local children ages 8 to 13, of all abilities and backgrounds, whose families are in need of financial assistance. Recipients are selected by EYCF Junior Sailing Committee members.
